(Anonymous) 2012-06-10 11:51 am (UTC)(link)I probably do need to do more reading, though. But I can't see how color blindness is wrong. I mean, it's not a long term solution, but I think it's a start in the correct direction for color equality and teaching against them vs us.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-10 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)In general, color blindness is condescending. You don't *actually* not notice a person's skin color, or you would literally be blind. It's often a shorthand of 'Look at me, I'm progressive, give me a cookie!' And it makes you not notice that you sometimes treat PoCs differently. It also ignores that if you're white (or pass for white, in your case?), you get benefits as person who doesn't pass for white does not receive. Google 'Why is not seeing color' bad' or a similar phrase for more people to explain it.
As for 'advantage' - no one said minorities should be advantaged over non-minorities. You jumped straight to that from someone bringing up how they're disadvantaged. The fact that you headed straight there is a sign you really need to examine what you actually think about minorities.
Try doing a google search for racism 101. Sounds like you might need it. (This is not a snarky comment, btw. It just sounds like you don't have a firm grasp on the generally accepted 'basics', so it'll be easier to talk in communities like these with a better understanding).
