What you said to infinity. I actually got vicarious embarrassment for the faceless actor when I had to think about someone else playing Iron Man.

Right? I can't imagine what it would be like to try and fill his shoes. I kind of hope Hollywood as one is like, "Yeah... no, though." even if only out of self-preservation.

Batman and Bond can pull it off, but they also didn't have monolithic cross-movie franchises built up because of their work. And if the new Iron Man is supposed to be in the same universe as the rest of the current Avengers... ugh, no. I wouldn't be able to enjoy them with an elephant of that magnitude in the room.

Batman and Bond also had less specific personalities. Batman had so many incarnations and origin stories before they even got into the movies. Bond was so wildly varied a lot of fanboy's headcanon is that Bond was just a codename for different agents. RDJ has played Tony Stark so specifically and brilliantly while still staying true to the previous canon you can't really see anyone else pulling it off or even reinterpreting it.

Yeah; for similar reasons, I imagine it will be a long time before anyone ever makes another Joker movie.
