It's still relatively early so yea I don't feel the same way about them as I do about the original team. Mako, Bolin, and Asami definitely need some more development outside Korra though. That was one thing I loved about Katara and Sokka. They had their own stories outside of Aang that were profound and heartfelt. It's a bit more lacking in the new Avatar cast (that development seems to have gone more towards Lin and Tenzin which is fine because they are AWESOME). Like all we know about Asami is she's rich, she's beautiful, she can drive a car and her father is an Equalist. We know Bolin likes girls and is silly. We know Mako is EMOTIONALLY CONFLICTED. We also know they lost their parents. That's it. THere hasn't been any additional development with them outside of the little Korra/Mako/Bolin/Asami square we had in episode 5.

I don't know. I can name Korra/Mako/Bolin's flaws, with Asami...what are her flaws? What's her personality, come to think of it? She likes to race cars, kay. Drawing blanks. I got nothing

Oh, man, I had to LOL at that line. It stuck out like a sore thumb. It kind of reminds of the Boiling Rock episode as they're escaping and all Suki's lines became pointless: "We're on our way!" "We're almost there!" Like, is it so hard to give the Badass Normal girlfriend some personality, writers?

THANK YOU! Yes, I feel like I'm constantly saying this. I feel like Asami is becoming so much of what Suki's character became post-Kiyoshi Warriors episode. I feel like she's just...pretty. She's just there to fill "girlfriend" category, and toss around the much-beloved-and-soulless repetitions of, "sweetie."

Yea I was writing my comment while talking on the phone so I was kind of distracted :P

But yes I did mean to put in there that Asami right now is...just kind of there. Its kind of like they put her in to be Mako's girlfriend and cause romantic drama between him and Korra but they aren't really sure what to do with her now. I'd almost be inclined to say that the creators don't even know what kind of person she is or where to take her. Hopefully that will change in upcoming episodes but right now it just seems like she doesn't belong.

I don't remember Katara having flaws either (I don't consider having a temper to be a flaw, because its portaryed as righteous and not soemthing that holds her back,ala Ginny in Harry Potter)

Despite this I still REALLY liked Katara as a character, because she was so nice and caring *shrugs*

Do you mean what were presented as flaws or what could be seen as flaws? Because I could say forcing her beliefs on people, self-righteousness, trying to fix people without them asking her to, smothering tendencies, domineering tendencies, and holding grudges.

I guess, But it always worked out right for her in the end,(even though she got called out). Whereas with other characters their flaws actually held them back and they had to overcome them.

I still like Katara a lot, but I just recognise her as a more 'perfect character' than the others

That's not what "more perfect" means.

I think your judgement is being clouded by how much you like her.

Oh, no, I agree that they weren't presented as flaws. She was definitely supposed to be the best female character. It's just that presenting her as not having flaws doesn't preclude her from having them.

Personally, Katara was one of my least favorite characters, but that's because I see her flaws as much more intolerable than, say, Sokka's overinflated sense of martial ability or his complaining.

I think her focus on revenge was a flaw. Remember the episode where she takes a field trip with Zuko? And Aang warns her that what she's about to do isn't the answer, and won't make her happier in the end? She ends up realizing that he was right, and that she was about to lower herself just for the sake of vengeance.

I mean, it's not a huge flaw, but I don't think the show made her out to be perfect either.

her anger/resentment towards her father

her anger/resentment towards zuko

her anger/pain towards the fire nation

and her inability to let them go

these were major hurdles for her to overcome

not to mention the other smaller character flaws (e.g. meddling/nosiness)
