You can't call them a troll just because they're arguing and they're anon. This kind of ignorance is a legit thing to get angry about on the internet.

okay, I read down a bit further and can see why trolling might come up. BUT as someone who has been told I would be a good engineer because I am one eighth German, I genuinely find this kind of thinking creepy.

"this kind of thinking" as if i would actually tell you you'd be a good engineer? this is a fallacious train of thought. christ all i am saying is that people who live outside a specific region can still identify with it through ancestry, i'm not telling people what kind of job they should have like fuck dude you're basically implying i support eugenics which is actually the exact opposite of the truth

but if that 1/8th of you that is german likes to identify as such then great!!! you have every right to that and i am defending you, whereas most others in this thread are implying it's ~appropriation

I did not mean to imply you're arguing for eugenics or anything. And I honestly couldn't give less of a shit about anything related to Hetalia. I think the concept I'm having trouble with is how we're talking about ancestry here. When you say "ethnicity can be passed through blood", are you being metaphorical? To me, I have an interest in my ancestors lives and cultures, but I don't think there is any such thing as "german blood" at all, so the way you are linking physical inheritance (blood) to cultural inheritance (ethnicity) is just really offputting.
