Oh, this is ridiculous. It doesn't matter if the guy lived 6 houses down from you, he was still a complete stranger who had absolutely no impact on your life. Most people don't go around randomly trying to chat with everyone who lives on their street. That's weird and sort of invasive, unless you live in a neighborhood or apartment complex or whatever that holds some kind of regular meeting or get-together so people can get to know each other. And even then, YOU have a right to prefer to maintain your own privacy and have no obligation to greet or spend time with anyone just because they live near you.

Ray Bradbury may have also been effectively a complete stranger, but he DID have a deep and lasting impact on literature as a whole and on the lives of many, many people who read his books, myself included.

So yeah, obviously people are going to be more affected by the death of someone who created something that moved and inspired them than by the death of someone who was just... some guy.
