Perhaps it's because there are tons of people who read shoujo manga that speak english? Why does reading manga automatically = reading japanese and being on japanese forums? Or if OP is japanese, why does being japanese = not being able to read/write english? Or I guess japanese people never live in english speaking countries? Oh, and japanese-americans don't exist.

This. Throw James Sirius in there too. But the worst offender, for me, was Amy's daughter, Beth, in Little Women, who even had the start of the same illness as her namesake. It's just lazy and cringe-worthy.

In the case of Iroh, I didn't feel like he had enough personality to really take after his namesake. He seemed to just be there to provide some contrived fanservice. Bumi's scene was awful though and I bet Kya is just as magically similar to her namesake.
