Not the OP, but I get where she's coming from, somewhat.

I'm sure there are plenty of fandoms (and mainstream media, of course) where het pairings are popular. But not everybody is able to just switch fandoms at will, or participate in several at once.

One canon will tend to hijack my brain at any given time, and it usually won't let go for years. I can enjoy watching or reading other things, but they just won't have the same appeal and I won't have any desire to get into fannish activities for them. So I'm pretty much stuck with whatever problems that canon has until something else comes along and grabs me. I could get into other fandoms anyway, but the whole purpose of fandom is to have fun, so if you aren't, there's really not much point.

Saying 'Oh, there's plenty of places where you can find het/vanilla/etc.' to someone whose mind works that way is like saying 'Oh, there's plenty of places where you can find cute shoes' to someone who wears a woman's size 14 wide. Yes, the material is out there, but most of it doesn't fit.

Also this. I don't get how people think that everyone jumps fandoms solely for potential couples. I know people do. That's just not how everyone works. It annoys me when I see someone do this more than once. So you're not in it for the love of the canon but the potential porn? Especially if they ever get around to viewing/reading/playing the canon their shipping goggles are on so tight they're ingrown.
