What do you care? It's not like Saiyuki is the Avengers. Your fest is pretty much guaranteed not to be overwhelmed with Saiyuki fics. I don't get all the purity policing and butthurt around these fests.

But you're not taking into account the other fandoms in the fest. If you've got Saiyuki and the rest are obscure J-fandoms, then yes, Saiyuki may become the Avengers of the fic challenge.

I've seen it happen in Yuletide. Even as a rare fic exchange, about 5-10 fandoms dominate it.

But a few fandoms could wind up dominating the fest whether they're better known or not, as your example of Yuletide shows. And while Saiyuki may be a bigger fandom than others on the list, it's not a fandom of the moment, where half of fandom will write and request it if you give people any opportunity at all.

IIRC Parallels had a few not-so-rare fandoms last year, and none of them took over the fest. People who hadn't participated complained about it anyway, but as far as I know no one who had actually signed up was unhappy with the results.

I think it should be included as long as there's a stipulation for no Souji/Yosuke. I know Yosuke is hard for the Protag from day one. I know there's even unused game audio showing a romantic relationship between them. I understand 95% of the fandom are squealing girls that think it's the greatest thing ever. I'm just sick of it.

There is a rare Asian fandom exchange called Parallels. It uses the honor system for people nominating and requesting rare fandoms. Saiyuki and Kuroshitjsu are not rarefandoms at all, but the person with the secret is themselves tempted to offer Persona 4, which is also not considered rare.
