I once played Civilization, and was doing brilliantly at wiping out a whole country - and then their last remaining town sent me a message saying "We are small and peaceful. Please don't attack us!" and I felt SO GUILTY.

I can probably one-up you OP.

when the Celebi mission in HG/SS was available over wi-fi I felt horrible completing it because of the rumor that Giovanni committed suicide after being defeated, and I couldn't stand the idea of driving someone, even a villain, to end their life after losing everything, even if it was strictly speculation and not actually canonically confirmed.

Learning he's apparently alive (world tournament in BW) makes me feel less guilt, but yeah. My Pokemon anecdata, let me show you it.

That was pretty obviously fans once again desperately scrabbling for grimdark in Pokemon. The sound people claim is him jumping into a waterfall is pretty obviously the static from the radio broadcast that just so happens to start 1 second after the sound plays.

I guess? I haven't been keeping up recently, but the waterfall suicide bullshit was a big theory back when HGSS were still new.

Well let's be real, there's just as much possibility of anyone else in the childrens' game series Pokemon committing suicide because a small child beat them at their sole passion in life.

I do that too. And I make headcanon where they like being beaten and they're proud of you.

Same. My headcanon is that it's just some friendly roughhousing to them and they leave to recover when you're done playing with them.

It probably helps that there's that one NPC in Nacerene City that says Audino are helpful and like giving out massive amounts of EXP, which suggests they aren't very upset when you beat them for EXP and move on.

This is exactly why on my last run through White I caught and used an Audino. It feels much better to be using one to beat things down, it's kinda like a trade-off.

Last time I played pokemon I wondered how gruesome the route I was on looked from an in-universe perspective. What with all the grinding I was doing that path had to be filled with the bodies of dozens of unconscious pokemon. It made me feel bad, but some of those pokemon were assholes anyway.
