No, you're oversimplifying it a bit. I'll give you an example of a conversation I've had with someone:

Person: All female characters in media are boring. I wish they were more fleshed out.
Me: There are plenty of interesting female characters.
Person: Very, very few. The reason I don't ship het is that they are very hard to find.
Me: That's because you just watch bromance shows.
Person: Well...those are the only ones with really popular fandoms.

^ That annoys me. And I've had that sort of conversation multiple times. I realize that a lot of popular fandoms have rather lackluster female characters, but it's still a generalization based on just what the person watches.

Well the person can only base generalizations on what they know. And because you find this female character interesting doesn't mean everyone does. People have varying standards, and some will just never find a character that suits them. LBR, there is a problem with popular media.

Well the person can only base generalizations on what they know.

All Asians I know are bad drivers. Therefore, all Asians are bad drivers.

All the gay men I know are effeminate. Therefore, all gay men are effeminate.

All the girls I know are bitchy. Therefore, all girls are bitchy.

All the female characters I know of are boring. Therefore, all female characters are boring.

If that's all you know, then that's all you know.

da, but I guess that makes those hurtful stereotypes acceptable, right?

Jesus, are you seriously defending sweeping generalization? You are not in favor of broadening your horizon and educating yourself AT ALL?

Okay, I guess a summarization of what annoys me is this:

People who complain about how all female characters are boring when they only seek out bromance/male-centric shows.

Why it annoys me:

They're trying to justify why they ship slash by putting down female characters when they could just say, "Hey, I like this pairing."

Look, here's the thing, OP:

If people are in fandom to be in the middle of the action and follow really popular fandoms, and they're into slash, then they're going to say things like that because, well, that's how it goes. Those fandoms have become a kind of echo chamber—they were before but with tumblr it's only gotten worse—and when that's what you're chasing, that's all you're going to see. And some of the SJW can increase that because they spend most of their time fretting about those same fandoms.

It is SUPER frustrating, OP, and I get that. Frankly, that frustration is half of why I still read fandom secrets, to remind myself that fandom is huge and full of variety and infinitely larger than whatever the slash pairing of the nanosecond is. Try not to worry about the people who think fandom is small. Or maybe instead explain that they've self-selected themselves into a corner, and don't need to justify themselves to you.
