um excuse me we are trying to have a discussion about gay appropriation, pls do not interrupt.

also do not DARE to tell me that you or anyone you know identifies as a "top" or "bottom" because that shit was made up by appropriative fangirls and any gay man who actually uses or subscribes to that terminology obviously read some slash at a formative period in his life and internalized the self-hating hetereonormative gender roles therein and fllkllllrgrgrgrgghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I have problems with how "top" and "bottom" are used both by fangirls and many gay men to mean "dominant" and "submissive", as in the traditional way penetration/penises are seen in het relationships. Tops/penetrators are naturally alpha/aggressive/pushy/masculine, riiiight? Kinda heteronormative.

But I'm not suggesting the terminology comes from fandom. And I find the terminology more problematic amongst het fangirls.

um, are you seriously chiding actual gay men for participating in actual gay sexual practices because they are "heteronormative"? You do know these terms, "top" and "bottom," exist outside of the internet, right? And they often have little to do with dominance and submission and more with -- brace yourself -- simply whether you want to be fucked or whether you want to fuck someone?

Do you feel the same way about het couples who don't constantly switch who's fucking and who's getting fucked (with the use of a strap-on)?

I can't

AYRT LOL, my point is that those terms do exist outside of the internet, and yes, I do think that there is some heteronormativity currently present in gay male culture (and lesbian culture, to a lesser extent). Nor did I state that top was always conflated with dominant, even amongst hets, though there is a huge prevalence of this, yes.

You know the term "enclosure"?

Sooo... what I'm reading here, is that you judge gay men for their sexual practices, because they are doing it... too straight.

I'm pretty sure nobody involved is going to get confused about if it's heteronormative or not. Your assistance is not required.
