I don't understand why people rave so much about the show Katekyo Hitman Reborn. I watched the first 20 episodes and had to give it up because the writing was crap.

That's the funny thing about this manga (and anime); it's a completely different genre in the beginning. There's actually no story until... chapter 60-65 or so (episode 30-34).

Also, the anime was aired on Saturday mornings so it was rather significantly changed to make it less bloody and violent (which it was even at the startwhen it was a gag manga).

Not that it hasn't got its flaws, but the beginning really is like reading a completely different story.

Ugh, the anime adaptation was terrible, IMO.

But as the person above me said, KHR's first arc is very YMMV, but it really gets going around chapter 61, the start of the Kokuyo Arc. The only reason I haven't dropped it earlier than that because I actually liked the characters despite the Daily Life Arc being kinda flat. I don't expect everyone to give that amount of dedication though because it is neccesary to read the DL Arc to understand the characters and their quirk/motivations/what-have-you.

I'm with you, and I'm talking as someone who's watched all 200+ episodes and read some of the manga, too. Honestly, the only reason I got through all the awful stuff is because there's one character I absolutely adore. Pretty much everything else is almost unbearable for me. If it weren't for him, I would have ditched KHR a long time ago.

I just made a comment akin to this (perhaps slightly more offensive) that said the writing just isn't as good and got a good amount of anonymous hate about it. Glad to see I'm not the only one longing for "the golden age" or whatever.
