Ray Park is amazing, anon. Having a crush on him is nothing to be ashamed of. However, being able to identify him by the top half of his head might be. Holy shit, self, you haven't even watched a movie with him in it in years.

OP here. It's more that I'm married, and supposed to be a grown-up, and not getting crushes on strangers anymore. And yet, I see him in something, and I go all giggly stupid, like I'm twelve.

Aaaaah, gotcha. Well, of course it always depends on your own situation, but if it helps, I'm engaged (to a girl, even) and 27 (theoretically adult-ish) but I get crushes all the time.

Being a complete stranger over the intarwebz, I don't imagine my opinion will help all that much, but I don't think you should feel bad over something like a crush. You said you do martial arts (which is ultra cool, btw. I'm totally jealous) and he's REALLY good, at least by what my unprofessional eye can tell. I think it has to do something with really admiring someone, and then your hormones kind of take over. It seems like it would be evolutionary or something, to have your brain and/or hormones go 'ooh, that guy's really good at something we value, we should take a chance on him!'

He's world champion level in his style, wushu, actually, and he got to that level at a very young age. He's been considered someone to watch for a long time. My instructor saw him competing years back, and was like "He's in films now," and...well...I don't know.

I'm twenty-three, been married for four years. (Married young, I know, I know) And I'm just going to have to take your word for it. I married another martial artist after all. (Not wushu, thankfully I'm not that creepy) He is a Brit too though.

Actually, my husband claims he has the intention of thanking him if he ever meets him. He says that if it wasn't for him defining my type at such a young age, I probably never would have married him.

The husband is very chill.

Congratulations on the engagement! May your relatives not make you want to run away and elope by micro-managing every little thing!

Duuuuuuuuuude, I didn't even know that. I mean, he LOOKS cool, but it's easy to look cool when you've got all the best camera angles, you know?

D'aw, that's adorable, your husband. XD (And eh, my mom and dad married at 17 and 19, so I'm not saying anything about marrying young. Just because it's not for everybody doesn't mean it's not the right thing for some people. ...Wait, too many negatives. We'll just stick with congratulations?)

Thankee, thankee. It's not legal for us yet, so hopefully by the time it is, our relatives will all have gotten bored with the idea.

Oh, that's adorable. You think they'll get bored with interfering in your life. Trust me, after you get married, it will be "So, when are my grandbabies/niece/nephews coming along?" (For you, it'll probably be adoption pamphlets and invitro info) (Yes, it will be annoying and invasive) (No, you cannot make them stop)

As for legalization, boo on some states. Marriage is for everyone who can consent!

And yes, he looks cool just because he is cool. Darth Maul had that awesome light saber because Ray Park is a master with bo staff, and George Lucas was apparently like "Well, that looks badass." You even see him do a staff trick in X-Men, after he throws Storm down the elevator.

*laaaaughs* Okay, so it is a bit wishful thinking. With the ceremony, at least. I haven't spent the last twenty years telling my family I'll be a horrible parent and I was never going to do it for nothing. Small children are just so... small. And easily damaged.

Oh! Yes, I remember seeing that the first time I watched X-Men and being all ZOMG!!! XD I was even more of a fangirl then than I am now. Hell, he made Ecks vs Sever worth watching for me.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-29 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's a lot of wishful thinking. You get married, and suddenly rational people turn into zombies that will only be satisfied by the appearance of children to spoil. And they're not as delicate as all that, really. Few people manage to really break their children.

I haven't watched Ecks vs Sever yet, but I definitely want to.

It's a terrible movie, but one of Ray Park's character's fight scenes involves him using chains. It's pretty cool.

...Actually, I don't remember much of the story or what happened, just his fight scenes. XD

YOU MUST WATCH IT. It's one of the few roles in which he uses his natural accent and isn't wearing a ton of make-up.

Also, I'm an unabashed Ray fan, too.

Seriously, there's nothing wrong with that in general. You're still allowed to appreciate the opposite sex and have a silly crush on an actor. We all do it.
