Well, if you look at the origin story of Nick Fury, Jr. (Earth-616's African-American Nick Fury) in the comics, there's a ton more info on his friendship with Coulson. I didn't ship Fury/Coulson from the movies or Ultimate Spider-Man, but this made me want to ship them.

Ooh, my friend sent me bits of this comic, with the two of them together. It looks really interesting...maybe I should just read it. I like the added history between them here.

Battle Scars was so much better than I thought it was going to be. lol Usually "HEY LET'S MAKE IT LIKE THE MOVIES" comics (like this one) are passable at best. Maybe my expectations were low... but it was pretty good.

Battle Scars! THANK you! I was trying to remember what the name of the TPB/arc was but I couldn't for the life of me recall it. It was definitely better than I thought it would be: the premise seemed to just be a shoe-horn to make things compatible with movie canon, but I enjoyed the story quite a bit.

But yeah, as far as shoehorning movie stuff into comics canon goes, this one was pretty darn good. lol I'd love to see this expand out to at least the rest of the SHIELD related 616.

Oh man, I really loved Battle Scars, and totally came out of it shipping Fury/Coulson (Mac n' Cheese, lol) but the very last panel of Fury Jr, not only deciding to change his name but also getting the Super-Soldier/Commander uniform right off the bat and the one-panel change to looking exactly like movie!Fury, pissed me off so much.

Am I the only one who though non-goateed, buzz cut Fury was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more attractive? Like hommina hommina levels of attractiveness. :(

Agreed on that pretty unbelievable makeover. Movie!Fury was already based off of Ultimate!Fury who was based off of—so on so forth♥so what was really the point of the callback of a callback? I guess you could argue that it was also damn weak that Marcus couldn't have been a wholly original character too, but WHATEVS I guess. I still came out loving these guys so much.

The "almost" is because I ain't the hommina hommining type :)
But he did look cooler pre-redundant look. Yep.
