Granted I haven't seen the movie since it was in theaters, and there wasn't much about Pepper's role that stood out to me as particularly horrendous that *was* in the movie, but I read the novelization before seeing the movie (I know I know), in which Pepper holds the key to Tony winning the final fight. Near the beginning Tony was playing with some kind of defensive tech that compacted into a ball or something and when Pepper came in to talk to him, she got fed up with his fidgeting and took it away from him. Then later, in the final fight, she was *supposed* to pull the tech out of her purse and throw it to Tony, thereby giving him the last little push he needed to beat Whiplash. Sorry for the vagueness, it's been a long time since I read the specific scenes, but on paper they sounded SO AWESOME and then...they weren't there and I was sad. I don't even remember how he defeats Whiplash in the movie, but it just seemed so anticlimactic and boring compared to Pepper helping to bail him out.
