honestly I think a lot of these type secrets are made by people who are actually in similar situations-- they're quite common, honestly; probably MOST abusive relationships are of the slap-slap-kiss variety, otherwise people would be a lot likelier to run like hell, damn the consequences-- who are either trying to justify their love for their abuser, or who have not yet come to realize what is actually going on.
Or perhaps by people who were raised by parents who COMPLETELY withheld affection; Gothel probably looks pretty good in comparison to people whose parents had nothing to do with them at all.

That doesn't change the fact that they're enabling abusers by saying 'Well, this isn't *really* abuse', or the fact that they are invalidating victims by saying that. You can be a victim and still be an enabler.
