Gothel destroyed three lives because she couldn't stand getting old.

That's a really good point. I think, because we see so little of them in the movie, people forget about Rapunzel's birth parents and how they must have been affected by Gothel taking Rapunzel away from them to serve her own selfish needs.

The scene with the King and Queen towards the end, when they're getting ready to light their latern, breaks my heart into pieces because of the devastated looks on their faces. Seventeen years had passed, life happened, but when they were together just the two of them, you could see the emptiness where Rapunzel should have been, and their mutual sorrow.

It may be because I'm a mother myself, but that scene told me everything about how they were coping with the loss of their daughter.

In equal measure, their reunion scene makes me sob like a
