What nobody ever seems to mention, though, is that before that incident, Buffy gave him a severe, unprovoked beating--seemingly b/c he didn't want her to go to jail? The relationship was mutually abusive.

Like I said, she was kinda damaged herself.

By kinda, I mean "pretty goddamn out there bonkers"

The fact she was for all intents and purposes yanked from heaven and her every day now a hell didn't help.

Er, they mention it ALL THE TIME. And they almost always start with "what no-one seems to mention", like it's some new and radical thought that will of course change our minds about poor abused Spike who is so victimised by the majority, instead of being worshipped by the vast majority (of idiots).

IDGAF about "mutually abusive". Spike's vile. In so many, many ways that Seeing Red (I'd have preferred he tried to turn her myself anyway, it would have been way more interesting) is pretty much an irrelevance to me.
