I love how all of her affection towards Rapunzel involves her hair (as seen in the picture used)

When she tells Rapunzel she loves her, notice how she is looking at her hair each time throughout the movie.

I don't get this argument; what's she supposed to do, kiss her on the lips? If you hug someone with long hair your hands are going to touch their hair.

Cheeks, and the forehead are pretty common places for a parental affectionate smooch. Sure a lot of hair is going to get in the way, but it's the only part of Rapunzel Gothel really focuses on.

Not sure if that's really the best example since that happened during a song where she is mocking Rapunzel for being too fragile to survive outside the tower and is trying to manipulate her by convincing her that everything will kill her under the guise that she loves her to much to risk having that happen.

Wow, one cheek cuddle in a song dedicated to guilt tripping, humiliating, and terrifying Rapunzel into staying isolated from the rest of humanity for her entire life. What a great mom.

WINNING. The whole point of Gothel being sweet to Rapunzel in that song is that she is making herself be the loving home that is much safer than the outside world. It boggles my mind that so many people miss that.

My mother and stepmother both don't just caress my hair when they show me affection. Hand holding, affectionately bumping shoulders, kisses on foreheads and cheeks and knuckles, a hug around the shoulders. Hair caressing is very low on the list and, even then, it's a gentle pat on the head.

Gothel does nothing else EXCEPT hair caressing. She doesn't care about Rapunzel except in regards to keeping her alive and healthy for her hair!

Yep. A little hair petting would be one thing; when it's ONLY hair caressing, it's obvious what Gothel cares abou.

Disney still has such problems giving any of its characters moral ambiguity.

It really does. I watched the movie looking for this and it's ALL involving Rapunzel's hair. It's subtle until it becomes super obvious
