Primary reason I love Nat, her weapons of choice.

(though I realize now that I've completely negated that she uses guns in my fics with her... It's always knives or hand-to-hand combat. Or just poisons them. Weird. She uses guns more than knives)

I like her hand-to-hand combat. She's ridiculously competent and scary. Which is just awesome.

Okay but the use of guns in Avengers is not exclusive to female characters by a long shot. And by this logic, any time Cap throws his shield, he's somehow weaker. Or Hawkeye is somehow less than because of his skill. Which is obviously crap.

I agree that it'd be great to see more variety in how female characters fight, but a lot of characters in Avengers are shooting at stuff. That seems pretty gender neutral because of the nature of the film (super-spies/soldiers etc).

No, I'm not saying in any way that using a long-distance weapon means a character is weaker. I was just musing off-handedly that I personally have never portrayed her as using a gun.

Guns tend to be the non-superpowered/"terrible privilege"-persons weapons of choice because it's kind of an equalizer. Powerful, deadly, ranged. Off the top of my head, I can only think of Superman as being impervious to bullets, because he's (in my opinion) the god-modded superhero who would immediately be thrown out of any RP for being "unfairly advataged". XD

Hmm. I'd have to check, but I'm pretty sure she's pretty handy with a gun in the comics. Actually, I'm almost 100% sure. But that comes down to a whole lot of YMMV when discussing fan works/RP stuff.

I agree. Superman just... no. Thor feels much the same way to me but again YMMV. My point was though that if you have a SHIELD movie (without any superheroes/super villains, wild power variants involved), there would still be a lot of guns. James Bond (which is the closest I can come to a comparison) and any CIA/FBI/espionage based films use guns for exactly the reason you stated, so seeing SHIELD agents do the same doesn't surprise me.
