Yeah, what the above anon said. It's perfectly okay and possible to have a mature appreciation for another culture, including Japan's. Most young anime fans will hopefully grow out of the obnoxious weeaboo phase but that isn't to say they won't still enjoy anime and Japanese culture. (Speaking as an ex-weeaboo myself.)

I think "weeaboo" as a term is a bit unfair, anyway. You get those overenthusiastic, obsessive young teen fans in lots of different fandoms - I've seen it with Homestuck, Harry Potter, Transformers, Star Trek... It's just that the ones from anime fandom seem to be either the loudest or the most prevalent, and unfortunately that kind of behavior gives a bad name to fans with a perfectly reasonable, mature appreciation for Japanese media and culture.

But we got names for all of those subcultures as well?
