You definitely have to pick and choose which topics to go into on ONTD. LJ Notes can be your very best friend on that site.

There are a handful of people who I think just hang out there to catch someone saying something that they can go after. They usually don't care about the topic, but are just waiting for someone to say something that can be twisted into the [-ist] of their choice.

But you really shouldn't let those jerks keep you from exploring the rest of LJ or fandom. Yeah, if you see that one of those bullies hang out in a fandom comm, I don't blame you for steering clear.

Oh, IA. I was jumped on by some people there for not saying the "right" things about the show Girls in a post. And I'm a queer black female.

The Girls posts are always kinda a mess. First people were mad that a show set in NYC had no diversity. Which makes sense, however it isn't like that was the only show ever to lack diversity. Then when Lena addressed the issue and added PoC in season 2, it was too late or she was pandering to masses.

To be honest, I haven't seen the show, so I really have no opinion on it; but I think it's kinda too bad that it got made a scapegoat for SJW.
