I remember if you were truly dicky to all three girls you would've ended up with Barret as your date, which was supposed to be some sort of punishment I guess. Only most people I knew wanted that option and would've gone for it had it not been so complicated to reach. If I played the game today instead of back then, I'd definitely tried my all to get a Could/Barret date.

It didn't come across as a punishment imo, as Barret spends the whole night asking Cloud who he would have picked instead like he's some kind of loony, but Cloud is in his *shrug*indifference* zone. (There's also a minor lolicon reference that made me bust up with the giggles)

Yeah, by punishment I meant like you had to sit through long awkward moments of them talking about who Cloud would've dated and Barret getting irrationally angry about the possibility of it being his daughter. It definitely wasn't meant as an option for people who (gasp) had a taste different than het.

I'm disappointed you couldn't go with Red XIII, not even as just friends. Creepy bestiality undertones aside, Cloud and him could have had a nice heart to heart, or something.

/Kinda bitter because Nanaki was my fav :(

ngl when they first arrived in Gold Saucer before the actual date, the first character I had Cloud take on the gondola was Nanaki.

I adore Nanaki to bits, and I especially love how he kind of fanboys over Cloud later in the game. Definitely one of my favorite transpecies ships. ♥
