LOL @ all the people in this thread who think that concrit = trolling.

You all sound just like the BNF's out there who seem to think that if anyone dares to do anything but lavish praise on their writing, then they're trolling.

Fact is, if you post anything online somewhere, people have the right to critique it as they see fit. If you can't handle it, then don't post anything, simple as that.

If it's fair concrit, why do they have a sock account? It's simple; because they're being more harsh than they need to be and they don't want to experience the backlash for it or have their comments attached to their actual username.

nayrt

You...clearly have not been around some of the more full of themselves BNFs. There are some people who can't take criticism of any kind. I've seen certain BNFs delete even the mildest concrits and proclaim them "trolling". And if it isn't the BNF themselves getting upset, sometimes their overly loyal minions will jump on you. I'm not saying this is the case for the majority of BNFs, but I can understand wanting to use a sock account even just for leaving fair crit if you don't want to be exiled by the fandom.

To be fair, I haven't been around many BNFs, so I guess I don't have the same experience. I can understand that train of thought.

Why do you need to leave harsh "honest" concrit under any account if you're going to turn around and leave praise under your real account and suck on their ass along with all the other "loyal minions?"

That's some principled behavior, there, that is.

/genuinely curious

...huh? I never said any of that. Someone was just wondering why anyone would post concrit under a sock and I was giving them a reason. You can post the crit under a sock and not say anything at all under your real name. The concrit doesn't necessarily mean you dislike the story and want to rag on it under a different name. Most of the time I'll leave concrit for someone under my sock account (sometimes they take it well, sometimes they don't) and leave my main account out of it.

The keyword in OP's secret is "harsh". You can totally leave constructive criticism and not be rude or insulting. It does take diplomacy, and more patience than going the "harsh" route, but there's a big difference between the two.

"not being harsh with your criticism" =/= "doing nothing but lavishing praise"

"honest criticism" not always =/= "harsh criticism"

*sigh* I knew I was overlooking an error:

I meant

"honest criticism" not always = "harsh criticism"

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're missing the point where the OP says they *love* logging into that sock account of theirs and ripping fandom favourites a new one. As in, they take pleausure in beating somebody over the head. Doesn't sound like leaving concrit is a goal, now does it? It rather sounds like this person enjoys an opportunity to do whatever they please and not be held responsible for their actions.

And with that kind of behaviour I seriously doubt it's somebody who's even capable of leaving concrit.

Personally? I blame reality TV.

No really.

Those shows have made catty, rude, and horrible behavior look like 'this is how people really are' or 'this is honesty'.

Being a civil, polite, and respectful seem to have gone completely out of style.
