Is this similar to the Pokemon Ash is dead headcanon thing?

Kinda-sorta? It says that Squall died at the end of Disc 1 or around that part (I haven't played it, but I basically know what happens through the whole game) -- actually, [SPOILERS], it says he died when that person shot him through the chest and his waking up totally healed in the place is the start of the dead!dream. So all the rest of the game takes place in those few seconds when he's falling, dying? It's hard to explain.

Also, that theory makes a scary amount of sense. I haven't played the game either, but it became my headcanon after I read it.
