It's The Wheel of Time, most of which was written by the late Robert Jordan, and which is being finished by Brandon Sanderson. All of the books except one are out now, and that one will probably come out next year we think maybe.

It's long, and really fantastic. The worldbuilding is incredible, the characters are enjoyable - both male and female characters are fantastic - and the plot is good. The variety of peoples and cultures is intriguing. It's also very PG13 - there is some gore, but not a whole lot; there are scenes where sex obviously is a thing but never described in detail; there isn't a lot of violence and pointless killing. Instead the story is driven by the adventures of the various characters - and there are a lot of characters with interesting pasts, goals, and viewpoints.

I haven't picked up the books in a while, but I may do a second re-read before the final book comes out. I'm obviously biased, I just have a general love of the series, and I'm sure it has its flaws, but overall I think it's great and an enjoyable read. (Obviously it doesn't have a lot of flaws in common with ASOIAF, which is what I'm kind of thinking about since it's been huge in fandom lately. It's like medieval romance without all the creepiness, objectifying of women, rape, and unnecessary killing. And better written. And I just generally like it better.)
