Preferring old stuff is fine, everyone has their preferences, but it doesn't make you mature. It just means you like old stuff.

Considering that stuff like Superman pre-dates most people alive today and Sherlock Holmes pre-dates everyone living, there are fandoms where NO ONE was there from the beginning and using the "I was here first" argument to mean, well, anything is pretty stupid.

My parents are the same age as your dad and they are the entire reason I like scifi and fantasy. They raised me on it through the stories the read me at bedtime, the TV shows we watched as a family, and the books we had laying around the house. They took me to cons and my dad is the only D&D GM I've ever played with. As a result, I've never approached fandom as if I was the first one to discover it and it did not exist before me. People who think that way, regardless of age, need to get over themselves.
