There used to be one girl in one of my fandoms who did this, and it was so annoying, especially since her critiques would boil down to "This character shouldn't be IC or topping, make him a blushing uke!" I should have done this xD

I got a review on a story of mine that said something to that effect, once. Something like, "But he's too cute to be seme!" XD

Not that it bothered me much; I'm still going to write what I write. It is silly, though.

Not those exact words, but she'd always complain about the bottom character (who she preferred as a top) being too whiny or "a blushing virgin" (he was a cute virgin, but also smart and capable and not that naive), while her criticism for his partner was pretty much that he should be an uke stereotype. She was way too in to h/c. Someone wrote a fic where the character she preferred on bottom as a paraplegic with a lot of health complications from it (actually a really good fic), and she complained that he wasn't being emotionally hurt enough DDDDDD:

I think Roger Ebert said something relevant (can't find it, hope I'm right) about reviewing movies based on what they were trying to do, rather than going in with an idea of what a good movie should be.

Usually when I read other people's reviews it's so that I can find something to say that hasn't been commented on ten times before, but when I see criticism I think is a bit harsh I try to cancel it out.

I don't see stuff like this that often, but when I do, I always want to speak up. Not to spite the other reviewer, so much, but because I want the author to be able to see another perspective and know reacted to their story like the idiot reviewer did.
