Question to all:

Is it misogynistic for me to hate Pepper Potts simply because I loathe Gwyneth Paltrow? I mean, I can see how Pepper should be awesome, but because I hate the woman who plays her so much I dislike the character too. Fandom has conditioned me to feel that any automatic hatred of a female character is most likely some kind of misogyny, so I'm struggling here.

lol, I gave up on watching Saving Private Ryan about 10 minutes once because all I could see was "Tom Hanks pretending to be at Normandy" and not his character. I thought it was especially bad at the time because I was even worse at recognizing actors then than I am now (I just don't play close attention to most of them, follow their careers across roles, whatever), but I could still pick out Tom Hanks so hard that I couldn't unrecognize him. >:|

Gah, it is so, so gratifying to know that it's not just me. I have a few friends who love Tom Hanks and think I'm just nuts.

I'm not, though - the same thing ruined Saving Private Ryan for me the second they get off the beach. Because yeah, it's Tom Hanks at Normandy. Completely, irrevocably shattering my suspension of disbelief.

No, I think that's just you not being able to separate character from actor, which makes me kind of sad for you because Pepper is awesome, but I understand because I have a similar problem with Matt Damon (not due to Matt Damon himself, but he looks enough like a guy from my past that I'd really rather forget that I can't really watch him in movies without feeling oogy).

Unless you hate Gwyneth Paltrow for misogynistic reasons, no, this is fine. Some people have a hard time separating certain actors/actresses from the characters they play, and that's fine.

I don't think so. I find it a bit frustrating because I love comic!Pepper so much but it doesn't translate onto the big screen because I just can't get past my aversion to Gwenyth.
