...I've basically lost my mind. No one came to defend me and the crapweasel has gone on and on at me and how terrible I am. So I've basically just told them what I hate about them and that I'm not going to stop with my "nasty rants" until I see fit, and not because they tell me so.

And I finished my post by basically saying that if they keep up their bad behavior I'm gonna hound them every time they do.

I sound like a complete nutbar but at least I think I've made an impact. But the thing is, I might have actually frightened them, and I feel worried about my own sanity now. I never understood before how people could become so serious business about online stuff (and I want to be clear, there is absolutely no way I would ever lash out at someone in real life or even stalk them to another website than the one we're fighting on -- but it's entirely possible that I have given the impression that I would), but I've had a look at my own dark side tonight.

I'm scared.

I'm not sure what happened, Anon, as I've been away for a few days, but it sounds like you need some cheering up.

Yeah, I did this in a fandom a few years ago. Even with a little defense here and there, the BNF shitweasels in my fandom kept on with their drama until it all blew up in one of the communities, the mod went nuclear on their asses and kicked some of them out, and the fandom fractured and basically shriveled up from there. What's left of it is totally owned now by the remaining shitweasels, and most of the quality of fic-n-such is really damn bad - well, at least it was the last time I checked in a few months ago.

The moral of the story is: You can keep on and drive yourself batty; you can shut up and try to enjoy the fandom bits and pieces you like, as is; or you can find another, more fun fandom with better human beings taking part (like I did, eventually). I highly recommend the third for your own sanity. Who knows, if you bow out now, you might still like your current fandom in a few years; I sure don't, my old one.

Option 4: Drop in from time to time to troll the hell out the remaining fandom, with special loving attention to the remaining shitweasels.

Corollary 4.1: But probably under a sock name.

Honestly, if you want to keep hounding them every time they are a jerk, go for it! But try not to take them seriously. (I know, easier said than done...) Let <i>them</i> be angry because there's someone not bowing down to them.

I'M SO HAPPY! WE BOTH JUST GOT BANNED FOR A WEEK! Before I started into the telling off I made one last ditch effort to tell the admins what crapweasel was doing (and I preemptively apologized for the kind of nasty I was about to get), and they contacted me and said they were aware of their behavior and were doing something about it!!!

I wonder if that admin was surprised at how warmly I thanked her.

Um, I totally didn't just try to do that and now see that I have to be verified by the admin who will obviously see what I'm doing if they can see my IP...

Crap, I think I just lost any good points I might have earned with my response to the admin.

My guess is that they can only see your IP after you register and actually log in, so if they only saw a different e-mail / username combo when you tried, they likely don't know it was you.

I would advise that you wait for the week to be over and then check to see what happened/happens.

Chill, seriously, this is what griefers and trolls take advantage of all the time; an awful lot of people find conflict scary and avoid it IRL, and then get emotionally wound up when they're involved in conflict on the internet. Internet life can be very socially real, so you've got all the same responses that tell you that conflict is a threat to your social world but you (very realistically) DON'T have the same compunctions about wading into it/starting it because it's the goddamn internet and you can just ragequit and start a new sock someplace else whenever you feel like it. Having to leave IS a real social consequence but it's not on the same order as having to leave a community IRL.

IMO it's good for people to get over the conflict-aversion feeling and get used to seeing their 'dark side'; it won't be the last time life drops you into a situation when you'll need to deal with it & keep on being yourself while having to commit assholery for the right reasons. In this case it seems like you feel that you've picked the right throwdown and it's completely worth the potential consequences, so you're doing well so far. :)
