Yes I am this starved of understanding when it comes to my love for this mangaka. Nobody I know gets why I'd enjoy a story set 2 centuries ago in the middle of nowhere with characters that aren't "burdened with glorious purpose" and just want to live their normal lives.
Inhumanly high fangirl squeal at f!s? I regret nothing.

Hi! I LOVE "A Bride's Tale" sfm I can't even! Though "Emma" just didn't suit my fancy. But, yes, I am a fan of hers. ♥

I loved all the secondary characters in Emma, I got really invested in them. The main love story read like a bad take on Jane Austen to me though, yet this woman's ability to reproduce every tiny aspect of daily life back in the 19th century... it's breathtaking. I'm in utter love with the worlds she crafts. And she outdid herself in Bride's Story!! Every panel's packed full with a gazillion little things that show the background isn't just a blank or simple backdrop, but an inhabited place. Reconstructing the mentality of the epoch and the location is also something I really love in my historical fiction; I hate it when authors think historical setting means just modern people in costume.

The manga's quite expensive and hard to get where I live, but I couldn't not buy it. Especially when it's such a gorgeous hardcover edition!

Yeah, that's why I didn't really like Emma. That, and the fact that the Victorian era just isn't my thing, you know?

I mean, holy shit, yes! Like, she draws these super detailed clothes, with super detailed patterns, and she redraws them every panel, instead of copy pasting them when the fabric moves. It's all so incredible.

Yeah, I saved up for a long time, and finally got them. Can't get anything else for a while, though. They're so expensive, but they're sooooo pretty. ♥_♥

Oh, I really love the Victorian era, so it was right up my alley. Had the main couple been less cheesy, it'd be very close to being the perfect shojo/josei manga for me.

I'd cosplay Amira if I had any talent in sewing. I'm shit at it though, so I can't even dream of reproducing her outfit. I also really, REALLY adore her drawings of carpets, woodwork and jewellery. Everything she draws is just gorgeous. Have you seen these videos of her drawing and inking a picture of Amira on her horse? They're long, but so fascinating!

I got my copies on eBay, there was this seller who was willing to lower the shipping costs, since they were more expensive than the book itself (and Amazon's a master of overinflated shipping costs, so no Amazon for me. Ever ;_;). And I got them slowwwwly, but now all three existing volumes sit proudly in my bookshelf! Bagged like there's no tomorrow, though (I want the dust covers to remain as beautiful as they are now).

My mum likes it too, and she really likes cheesy romance novels, so I'm hoping someday to get her into manga (or at least, get her to tolerate it) by introducing it to her. I haven't been able to yet, though. |D

I wouldn't, just because I'm not the right type for me to cosplay her comfortably, but I've seen some really awesome cosplayers, and it just makes me jealous. >_>; I haven't seen that video! I think I'll watch it today. :D

Yay! You have them! I don't have them in dust covers, I've been reading my copies, but now I'm thinking that I should cover them... >_>;

(P.S. I don't know if you go on tumblr or not, but if you do, you may wish to check out this tumblr if you haven't already. It's an F Yeah Bride's Story tumblr. :D)

I don't know if dust covers is the proper term. I mean the glossy paper in which the cover's printed, that stays on the book because of its two flaps. If you remove that, you've got a regular looking hardcover book. My edition's YenPress, I don't know if you've got/there are any other editions in English.

You've made my day with that link. Fuck, you've made my week. Every time I search deviantart for fanart, I get so little stuff, and only a few of them well drawn. That tumblr is AWESOME.

The video I referred to is actually a series of them, the first one's this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK-Lf_qP5m4 And this is the lat one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNITDW-3aTM For a quick drawing, you've got this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb5YtWxwBic

I think that's the right term? Because I'm thinking of the same thing that you just describe when I here the term "dust covers". And, yeah, I got mine from YenPress. :)

Isn't it! I've also found that searching for "Otoyomegatari" instead of "A Bride's Tale" helps with finding things. :)

Thank you for the links! I'm going to go watch them~
