(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)I could barely identify students that weren't my classmates, unless they had very distinct facial features, or unusual hair colors.
It seriously wrecked havoc on my social interactions, and I grew up being shy and insecure. I've been working on improving my facial recognition skills these last years, and it's been working slowly. Watching the TV show "Lie to me" helped a lot, actually! More with identifying emotions and how truthful people are than to tell them apart, but it did help me learn to focus more and more on faces, and that helped me learn to tell people apart a little more.
I still have trouble distinguishing (and remembering) the faces of some people, but it's gotten better. I've read that doing those sorts of mental exercises help new neuron paths build or even recover, so maybe that's what happened to me?
