If you don't tell them it makes you uncomfortable and pretend to not mind looking at things, of course people are going to assume you're okay with them. They can't magically read your mind if you never have, and never will, say anything otherwise

Try telling them that the pairing makes you seriously uncomfortable for IRL reasons you'd rather not discuss. You don't even have to go into detail. If they can't respect that, then they're probably not very good friends.

I agree very deeply with the above anon. If your friends can't respect why something bothers you, they aren't very good friends - but they also can't be mind readers. If they don't know that it bothers you, they're going to just keep sending it.

(I have the complete opposite problem pairing wise, Winry reminds me of my baby brother's current girlfriend, who is an abusive bitch to him and is always throwing shit ... but is the perfect angel around my parents and my brother refuses to admit anything's wrong because he feels like he needs to be in a relationship. It frustrates me all to hell because now I can't even look at that cartoony trope of female on male ridiculous over-the-top violence because it now makes me sick.

You're not alone anon. I like Ed/Winry SO MUCH MORE than Roy/Ed. Idk why, I'm usually a huge supporter of slash pairings, but in FMA I'm a fan of all the het pairings (I probably dislike Roy/Ed so much because I'm such an obsessive Royai fan, tbh).

Same here. When I was interested in FMA (which was around the time of the first series,) they were my favorite pairing. I was surprised too because I was a slash fan in every other fandom except this one. I couldn't stand the thought of Roy/Ed mainly because of the power imbalance. Roy/Riza seemed more on the same footing even though she was his subordinate. I guess it had to do with her no-nonsense attitude and the fact that she kicked his ass all the times she saved it.

I think the power imbalance might have been something to do with it for me, too. Also the fact that there's so much to support it in the actual series...Usually I'm not the person who sticks religiously to canon, but it was really obvious for me in the series.

I agree with the nonnies. Just say that the pairing reminds you of something painful irl. Preferably without bashing the pairing of course, if you want to avoid insulting your friends (who may have a different take on Roy/Ed than you do).

We can't help making certain associations. It doesn't matter that the characters aren't your brother and that man, sometimes even just a tiny similarity can ruin things.

I'm confused, can someone tell me what pairings OP is talking about? I don't see any difference between the colors.

But, can't you just say that the pairing doesn't hit a chord with you? You could tell them that recently rewatched the show and found yourself falling out of love with the pairing and that you're now shipping the other pairing, for example. That way you won't have to give a reason why if you feel uncomfortable talking about it and your friends will hopefully get the hint.

Though I agree that it would be better if you told your friends that the pairing makes you feel uncomfortable. As the above anons said, if you don't tell your friends that you don't like the pairing (and even act as though you read/like the things they rec you) they will never know the truth. Rather, they'll keep reccing things to you because they'll figure that you like the pairing like they thought you would. You could tell them that it generally smacks you too much of abuse to enjoy the pairing without bringing what happened to your brother into it.

It's Ed/Roy and Ed/Winry, with the OP not liking the Ed/Roy pairing (which is very popular).

I fail to get the charm of Roy/Ed and I'm a slash shipper too.
Hopefully I'm in a corner of fandom where everyone appreciates EdWin and worships Royai so I have no problems.

I just really reaally hate that RoyEd shippers tend to make Roy someone like Christian Grey.
