As a general rule, when I write Bioware fanfics, I usually try to just refer to them by their title or last name- like Shepard or Hawke, etc. I think it's more inclusive and it's what everyone calls the character anyway, so it's more natural.

I totally agree with that; I was just worried that people would think it strange that he'd refer to himself by his last name (I'm writing the fic from his POV). Then again it'd be a silly complaint, seeing how there's plenty of people out there who don't identify with their first name -- I'm just a worrier, I guess -_-b

I hear you! I have a long running f!hawke/fenris story- mostly everyone just calls her Hawke. Except Bethany called her Marian (or some variant) and Fenris called her Marian when they had sex (that one time DX). Otherwise, it's just Hawke. So yeah, when I do include the first name, it's almost always the default unless I hate it (I'm looking at you, JANE SHEPARD)
