*rolls eyes* oh come on, don't try and put words in my mouth just to give you an excuse to rant when you KNOW that's not what I meant.

Of course there are great relatable characters in modern media, but they're not nearly as numerous as male characters, when they do appear they're almost always main characters instead of random awesome peripheral characters, and there's not a whole lot of variety of them -- they're often BAMFs or paragons of common sense and intelligence or cute sweethearts or emotionless professionals --, and they often have a big deal made of the fact that they're female. Those can still be great characters, and not all great female characters are like that, but in terms of sheer numbers? Yes, I can see how it can be a problem to create female characters of your own, when, say, someone goes "name an awesome female action hero who can kick anyone's ass" and people have to stop and think after citing Ellen Ripley.
