I think this is a case of feeling "this person has angered and annoyed me, how can I hurt them" and lashing out with the first thing that might fit.
But there are absolutely people who are conventionally attractive and grow up making those kind of judgments about other people as a matter of course though, just think of anyone who works in Hollywood. Seems kind of alien and sad to me, whenever I see people being happy or passionate they're beautiful!
