It's partly the master/slave thing, but also the relationship between Kes and Ortiz. The wedding dance (particularly the eyes through the veil) + the tragic ending - I'm actually finding it pretty hard to articulate why though.

I really love these books, but I can't work out what the fetish would be? I remember in the third book of the series there's a 'passion fly' which makes people act out their darkest thoughts....
