It makes me really uncomfortable. I think it's the whole "biologically assigned roles" thing, which pisses me off to an unbelievable extent in real life, so when it shows up in fic, I really, really don't like it. Yes, even if it's with men.

I've seen a handful of fic that explores the "biologically assigned roles" from a non sparkly wonderful perspective and actually follows through on the premise instead of "you just hadn't found the right alpha yet!" and they were compelling but ninety-nine percent of it is *handwaving* "that's just how it is in this universe".

Though I have a hard time with the term omegaverse because it covers such a variety of interpretations it's really hard to tell what people are talking about. People seem to have very different ideas of what is and isn't omegaverse.

That's the only kind of alpha/beta/omegaverse fic I'll read, ones where they actually deal with the issues inherit in the system, rather than using the world as a vehicle for knotting.

Eh. Explore the issue all you want, it still isn't something I want to read. I have actually tried reading them--okay, once. It was decently written, and it didn't make the whole situation all sunshine and roses, but...IDK. It was everything I didn't like, all wrapped up a package with porn that I did like. Unfortunate.

i actually prefer it when they handwave it and go the way of 'it's just how omegaverse rolls, now let's get to some filthy sex' instead of being all philosophical and thoughtful about it (unless it's thoughtful wangsting that builds up to even hotter, filthier sex).

it's a guilty pleasure, shameful kink about self-lubricating anus, soulbonding, heat and dudes getting pregnant. come on, son. no matter how pretty a writer dresess it, it's still fucking ridiculous by finition.

Haha, I guess I'm a child of both worlds, then. They make me deeply uncomfortable because they are almost always dub-com at best and still regarded as 'romantic', yet I can't help reading them. It's a guilty pleasure, but I at least acknowledge that it's unnerving and that anything they do *except* for the specific knotting and self-lubrication kinks can be found in a sex pollen fic.

The ownership and brood-mare connotations do make my inner feminist rage, though.
