SPOILERS HERE! Don't read if you don't want 'em!

I miss the early and mid days when the fic focused on Zuko's self-discovery and figuring out waterbending. The middle arcs with the escape from Ba Sing Se and setting up Dragons Wings were exciting.

But now, with all the time given to Aang and company, and Azula, I find it less interesting. Mostly because I don't like Aang much, nor Azula. Though I do enjoy what's going on with Sokka. I keep waiting for him to gain Fire Nation subjects now that he's a Noble. ^^

tl;dr: I've lost interest now that Vathara is paralleling canon, what with the Invasion. (Or rather, paralleling canon as much as she ever does!) I'm looking forward to the return to more original events. :3

(Yes, I have read Embers twice, and save each new chapter to my hard drive. What? I like it!) :D

Agreeing to pretty much everything you said here. *g* Have read and re-read multiple times by now (and I'm saving it to my hard drive, too.) and I still like it a lot.

Glad to see I am not alone! :D

Definitely not alone. I lost track of how many times I've re-read it. I'm doing it again now as a matter of fact. I have also used Calibre and the Fanfiction Downloader plugin to make it into an e-book so my current re-read is happening on my Kindle. :)

You're fancier than I am. ^^ I decided to reread when Sokka was adopted by the cranky Fire Nation ghost whose name I can't remember (Bad fan! Bad!) and saved each chapter as an rtf file as I went. I knew about the fanfiction downloader, but I chose not to use it. I can be stubbon sometimes. :B

I don't have a Kindle or other e-reader yet. Lo, I am behind the times!

Now I wish I'd been reviewing, because I loved the former slow pace. And going by comments below, if the whiny entitlement readers are the reason she's zooming along with plotty stuff so much these days...maybe I could have mitigated that. Damn it. T.T

Oh, not just me with it on the kindle, yay. :) I have re-read the first part (through to the end of canon S2, basically) more times than I'd like to admit, but I keep putting it down and not coming back to it shortly after they leave the beach, so I've only read the last few chapters like three-four times all told. I HAS gotten so much more rushed, hasn't it? I really noticed it in the walking whales chapter - it was like, "wait, random underground chamber huh?!"

IIRC, the existence of underground chambers was mentioned in an earlier chapter. Something about a library, too? The walking whale skeleton storage-thing wasn't completely from out in left field.

I hadn't consciously noticed the pace increase until dancing_serpent pointed it out below. That explains why my burning desire for each new chapter has lessened. I definitely prefer character development over battles, and we haven't been getting much of that lately. :/

I don't know how Vathara is going to deal with the final battle in a satisfying if she keeps jumping from scene to scene without much time for character introspection. But she's been at the fic for almost 3 years now, and at 650,000 words...I can understand if she just wants to finish already. It still makes me sad, though.

I do hope she doesn't end the fic with the Fire Lord's defeat. Her story isn't about the war, it's about Zuko's maturation and fixing the spiritual mess the world is in. I'm sure she knows this, the question is if she'll be willing to write it all out! *crosses fingers for good luck*

I think I need to start reviewing and offering my thanks and encouragement. Hmmmm.
