I don't get how people *don't* understand how you'd be attracted to fictional characters, especially if they're portrayed by a real actor.

I think it's because Mycroft himself isn't real, and that is who the anon is attracted to. Not the actor necessarily. I could be wrong though.

That's what I thought, but then they specifically added a picture of the actor?

I think they're attracted to the character as portrayed in BBC Sherlock. (The programme takes a lot of liberties with Mycroft Holmes, starting with his appearance :-)

Mycroft only shows up in two or three of ACD's stories and he's really presented as a lazy Sherlock Holmes who basically runs the British government. BBC Sherlock is a far better fleshed-out character with his own personality and relationship to his brother. So the OP could very well be attracted to Gatiss' version of Mycroft rather than ACD's or any of the others.

I could understand only finding yourself attracted to people you'd actually met and interacted with. But no one with such a secret ever states it that way, so who knows.
