Loki tossed Thor out of a flying airship in a glass cage without batting an eyelash but drops tears after personally drawing blood from Thor?

Eh, it makes some kind of sense to me. How do I explain it? I think he didn't mean to kill Thor, he was trolling him more than anything, with a mad gleeful recklessness. In the scene where Loki shanks Thor, he was up close & personal & tempted by Thor's offer & love, and then bitterly rejects it as 'sentiment' because he sees it as too late for him to go back. He also didn't mean to kill Thor here, it was his way of pushing him away & convincing himself and Thor that there was no hope for him.
