I don't think he is? I am fairly certain that they've said he was a 'mutt' before but I can't find the source...

I'm peggin' him as having mixed heritage rn, or as Ambiguously Brown (the trope)

I don't think he is? Idk, I don't watch the show super religiously (mostly through watching it with my sister who's a fan), but he doesn't look white.

EDIT: According to my sister, who's in the fandom, the creators have said that the character is a POC, but they don't have specific race set.

Great... Let's have a racially ambiguous character and then have the SJ warriors tear apart any fanartist who misinterprets their skin tone. It'll be Korra all over again.

That's not the point I was making.
Everyone knows Korra's not white, you can tell from her clothing alone. But it doesn't occur to every fanartist that her skintone should be paid special attention to. It's really inconsistent the show itself, after all.

One of my friends had their Korra fanart absolutely shit on for "whitewashing" even though she picked the colors straight from a screenshot. It's fucking nuts.

The thing you have to remember, though, is that whitewashing *is* a problem - and, from my understanding, actually happened to at least one character in A:tLA [or so I've heard. I haven't bothered to go check it out personally.]

While I do agree people *shouldn't* jump down people's throats asap when they see someone has skin tone off, people do have a right to be upset. And...well, sadly, when people are upset they have a nasty habit of lashing out - even if lashing out is probably going to make the situation worse than it already is.

I think whitewashing needs to be intentional until you're truly justified to call it whitewashing. Pointing out flaws in art is a completely fine practice, but do we need to raise a whole damn commotion over a simple mistake? Really?

None, I repeat NONE of the people who draw a paler Korra genuinely believe that she looks "better" that way. Misjudgement of color simply happens all the time. Many artists paint her clothes a wrong shade of blue, too.

If Korra's character design was inspired by, say, an African people, fanartists would be 100% aware that her skin is dark. Because it's Africa, duh. However the various Inuk people don't come with a distinct skin tone in the real world. They can be pale, or they can be a little tan.

Guh. Motorcity's on my backlog of junk to watch, so I have no idea what character is what.

I did, however, read something that one of the animators blogged going all, "oh btw, this character is Asian. jsyk." I don't remember the details, just that it there was some wanking on my dashboard I had to skim through.

Texas (the short guy with the baseball cap who refers to himself in third person)is Asian. Like other people in the thread pointed out, Mike is either mixed or an undetermined race.

For some reason I see him as South American (Brazilian)
