Agree with everything you've mentioned.

Another thing that bugs me in Omega!verse, and I might not explain this properly, is that only men are true Alphas because only men can get people pregnant. It's another layer of the sexism within the verse. You also have male omegas having female traits - self lubricating and pregnancy the two most written about - yet no females ever have male traits. You could just as easily write some fantastic explanation of alpha females being able to impregnate people - clit grows and acts as penis in mating - but nobody ever deals with that because only men can be the manly mans and perform the most important and revered act of impregnating and knotting.

The entire verse is set up to back up male privilege and stereotypes and give them all the power. But I find creepy about it is that the fans of this verse never seem to acknowledge this and in fact I've seen fans defend the verse as being liberating or feminist. It's that unacknowledged inherent underlying sexism that is really creepy.

I actually *have* seen fics where female alphas can get male omegas pregnant via some ovipositor or seahorse-y stuff (don't judge me I was just reading out of curiosity — it's actually kinda cool to see what creative thing each author will come up with next even if it skeeves me out in all the wrong places) but that kind of seems to imply genders are purely aesthetic in the omegaverse and people with actual "female"-type biological functions are still subject to all the fetishizing and powerlessness you were talking about.

Ooh, interesting that someone's actually tried that. I admit I haven't read a bunch. I basically went through a weekend of omega!verse and got totally sick of it and never went back.

Yes yes, that exactly. Anyone with "female"-type biology is automatically fetishized and stereotyped and powerless. I find the whole thing equally fascinating and frustrating. It's the anthropologist in me.

You kind of have to at least skim one of these at some point to figure out how this 'verse works. The one I read to figure all this out had...women alphas, anyway. Women could be born with penises, making them alphas, or vaginas, making them omegas. Which, like you said, gender entirely aesthetic, "female" biology is fetishized, etc. and so on.

...Also it made my picky side wonder if the female alphas had boobs and, if so, why? Maybe that's how male/female was defined in that story? Mammary glands vs. no mammary glands?
