I considered it "coming out" when I explained it to my now-ex, a few of my close friends and eventually my mother. I'm only "out" to a small number of people (and not exactly comfortable with putting it on my Facebook profile, for example) It's a large part of who I am and influences my choices in life, so why shouldn't I seek the support of those who really care about me? I'm still dealing with having to explain myself every time because it's like a Q&A session. Whereas if you say "I'm a lesbian", people already know what that means. If I ever do get married, I'd have to deal with the endless "so when are you having kids" from every other relative.

Also, yeah. Dating. I realized I was asexual around six and a half months into my seven month relationship. Three guesses as to what happened there.

Did I say I was oppressed for not wanting kids? No. But I'd like to be able to explain why I don't want kids without being mocked for it or told that i'm wrong. Het couples who don't want kids can say any reason for why they don't and it's generally accepted. If I said it's because I'm not sexually interested in my partner (I'm not) then they start questioning me to a level of ignorance that can get rather annoying (they have) and they walk away at worst thinking I need treatment or at best that I am living in denial.

Love how going anon makes it seem like there's a lot of people when really there isn't.

I don't want to be bitchy, I just don't understand. If you want kids, there are ways to have them without having sex. If you don't want kids, you don't want kids, and why should be nobody's fucking business.

This is not... entirely true. If I had a penny for every person that gave me shit when I said I don't want kids, whether from family or in-laws or friends or medical professionals or even just strangers on the internet, I would be a fucking rich woman.

I apologize. I was trying to speak generally but in this case it didn't translate well from my brain to words. I'm sorry you get shit from everyone about this, because you shouldn't, but there will always be people dense enough to not get that "I don't want kids" means "I don't want kids regardless of what you tell me".
