You seriously can't cosplay them because of height? And that character is the only fictitious figure you can possibly share physical similarity with?

Quit your naval gazing, do your cosplay, and tell anyone who gives you shit to go fuck themselves. Half the point of cosplay is for nerds to criticize each other outlandishly so they feel less of a loser. If you can't handle that, don't enter the game.

You should still so totally do it! So what if you're shorter than she is, that isn't the point of cosplay (at least not to me). Heck I'm a 6'1" tall woman, and I sometimes like to cospay as Buffy who is definitely canonically shorter.

Or you should stop worrying about what other people will think, and just do it and make yourself happy.

I don't think this should be a big factor. Cosplay is supposed to be about fun, and if you want to do it, you should go for it. I'm sure there are plenty of cosplayers (great ones included) who cosplay characters much shorter and taller than them. Most people probably care more about the costume anyway.

However I agree that if you're the type to stress about this kind of thing and don't take criticism well (because someone is always gonna be an asshole about it, no matter how nice you look) you might want to think it over first (and see if it's worth it to you).

Tiny Brienne FTW!

I know a really tiny woman (like, under 5ft) who cosplays Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid, and her pics are amazing. So long as the costume's good people can ignore the height thing, and for photoshoots you can just pose with other cosplayers in such a way as to make your height less noticeable.

Go for it, OP! Own your shortitude, roll with it, and you will ROCKING because anyone even just considering Brienne cosplay is super cool in my books. Not that my books are worth that much to peopel, but I'm just saying you got my vote of you're doubtlessly awesome ♥

The point of cosplaying is to have fun.

So, go on and have fun. Haters can gtfo.

Eh, I don't think height is a problem. If you're ugly or fat on the other hand, I'd think twice about it ;D

Height doesn't matter that much, anon. Go for it!

(/will be a slightly bitter anon over here because of how different the responses are to this compared to how they are when fat people want to cosplay ==; )

(Anonymous) 2012-07-15 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You could also, if you have a willing accomplice, have someone carrying a small stepladder/footstool accompany you. :p

(Hey, it worked for these two: http://i.imgur.com/7JELp.jpg :p)

[personal profile] unicornherds 2012-07-15 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, cosplay is not about exactly replicating a character. It's about loving a character so much that you want to make the costume and parade around and be that character or show your love via sewing or just playing and having a good time. I've seen kids and little people cosplaying all sorts of stuff with badass outfits and as far as I know not one of them got shit for it. It's all about attitude and awesome costumes. If you want to cosplay someone, go for it and to hell with how much you match or don't match physically with the original source!

I'm short and someday I still wanna cosplay Oscar from Rose of Versailles. :3333

Look, every week we get a secret like this. I am the wrong gender. I am too short. I am too fat. I am too skinny. I have the wrong skin color. I am too old. I am too young.

The truth of the matter is, none of those factors really, really matter. The only thing that matters is the costume, itself. All most anyone cares about is if the clothes and the accessories look good.

You make an awesome costume, it really doesn't matter how you are built. The reverse is true. If your costume is awful, it doesn't matter if you are built just like the character, no one if going "ooooo" and "ahhhhh" over you.

So, just focus on the costume.

Hey girl, I'm a GOT fan and I know it would be hard to cosplay someone who's height is an important characteristic as Brienne, but you could use boots with platforms (I've seen people using them for cosplays before) and even though the height wouldn't be the same, it would be more comfortable that way and people wouldn't take notice :)

Just find things that could help you and it will be okay. I'm sorry if this comment doesn't make sense, english isn't my first language.

[personal profile] diet_poison 2012-07-15 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Do it anyway!

I can understand being concerned that you won't look 100% accurate (though that really shouldn't stop anyone from cosplaying anybody), but I'll add that I think height is one of the less important aspects. People probably won't notice as much as you think.

Besides, Brienne is awesome!

(Anonymous) 2012-07-15 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Screw that mess, you can be who/what you want, forget about everyone else and just do what you love!

Plus, if you're really uncomfortable with your height, there are LOTS of ways to add a bit to your shoes and such to give you a few inches. You could choose a pair of accurate-ish footwear with pre-existing wedge, and then add a "rise" inside. They sell them here. (http://www.lesloveboat.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=176) But seriously, don't let something like that bother you!

Go as young Brienne. She wasn't always 6 feet tall, right?

Pah, just go for it! Brienne is ridiculously awesome (not to mention hot as hell) and we need more of her in the world.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-15 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The world ALWAYS needs good cosplay, and some of that good cosplay comes from people who are of different heights. So you can either just be a petite Brienne (which sounds like some tasty French pastry, now that I think of it), or you can figure out a way to make stilts a part of your costume.

Either way, don't let the haters stop you from doing your thang

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Just do it, anon. Who cares about your height? I've seen tiny toddlers cosplaying, big fat guys, skinny white hipsters, ridiculously tall people, people in wheelchairs, and very short people cosplaying ... as long as they're having fun, the costume is recognizable to someone else, and they aren't mostly naked, who gives a crap about body image?

I am sick of this attitude about cosplay being srs bsnss and people being afraid to cosplay. DRESS UP AND HAVE FUN. FUCK ANYBODY WHO TELLS YOU YOU'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

[personal profile] khronos_keeper 2012-07-16 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Meh, no worries OP.

I'm 4'10" and did a John Watson cosplay, badass hardened soldier-doctor and all.

It's nothing in the height, trust me.
