A psychopathic mass-murderer rapist whose only redeeming quality is that he fell in love with a girl. Oh and he cries a lot.

There are plenty of characters who I would agree are possibly misunderstood. Doesn't mean they're not still assholes who's behavior is difficult for other people to handle or that there isn't a valid reason for people not to like them.

Pass abuse / child hood issues / mental illness / disability DOES NOT automatically excuse or make acceptable bad behavior. It may make it more understandable but it "get out of jail free" card for that behavior.

Not surprising. You take any evil male character and fans (usually female) will try and say he's misunderstood and just needs a hug or something. I don't get it, but it's (sadly?) not an unusual reaction.

Yeah, you're absolutely right, and it's irritating.

I just wish people would understand that it's okay to like evil/bad characters. Liking a character =/= condoning their behavior, and, to me, it cheapens their characterization when someone tries to say "NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HIS PAIN" or whatever.

I think he is poorly written. No, wait, horribly written. The only thing going for Tate is Evans Peters can take straw and spin it into gold. He took poor writing and made you feel for the character. That's fantastic acting.

Oh, so I misunderstood him when he raped an innocent woman and murdered innocent teens. Gotcha. Obviously they had it coming and it totally wasn't his fault because he cried about it.
