This reminds me of my reaction from childhood when I found out women couldn't be monks. I was so sad. I didn't want to be a boring old nun, I wanted to be a monk dammit. I wanted to spend lots of time in cool stone buildings reading books and also travel around meeting new people and having adventures. Like from Robin Hood and...lots of other childhood movies and shows and books that I can't think of right now but I promise did exist.

YES. I wanted to be Brother Cadfael when I was about 8 or 9. I guess it was just an early expression of my love for mysteries/crime shows, but Cafael was just THE COOLEST MONK.

Reading this reminds me of that kickass martial arts expert nun from Babylon A.D. played by Michelle Yeoh. We need more nuns like that.

You remind me of St Clare of Assisi :)

Since when can't women be monks? The Buddhist monastery my parents visit for meditation retreats has monks of both genders.

i don't know where your parents went but afaik buddhist nuns have to follow like two hundred more rules than buddhist monks have to. all women are nuns, all men are monks.

Are you my lost twin? I had the exact same thought when I was little. Gregor Mendel was a friar not a monk but still, he was the father of modern genetics. How many famous non-modern nuns are there and are taught about in schools?

And even when there are badass nuns like Caterina de Erazu, nobody knows of them.

True. The customers in the male strip clubs just seem more friendly and less creepy with huge smouldering resentment of the performing gender. (Not that all are like this, mind you, but enough to make it noticeable.) Although you'd need earplugs to be a male stripper.

...this is kind of the weirdest reason I've ever heard for being sad to be female. I mean, you feel how you feel, but just like every character represented in movies, you do know that male stripper-lives are not like that, right?

You could always perform as a drag king :U

I'm not sure if it's about not having a masculine body, or not having someone see you specifically as a male stripper here. But why not try seeing if you can learn or pull off a dance by yourself anyways?

OP

I thought about that! Looking into getting a tutorial DVD, if nothing else then just to make myself feel awesome even if I can never do it as a profession :)

Not to mention it doubles as a super fun workout.

And who knows. Impress your friends, so you should preemptively prepare and buy one of these!

Yeah, I was thinking drag king.

It depends on why the OP wants to be a stripper, and what they want or don't want out of it, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-15 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, it's not the same. Male strippers are constantly groped and fondled, where female ones are...less often groped and fondled.

Wait, who's this and where's this from?

It's from the new movie "Magic Mike" that just came out.

And it's better than OP would have you believe. There are interesting characters and even a plot, all on a $7 million production budget.

Can I just say that MM stripping at the end killed my lady boner forever? He's so.... oily? idk, he skeeves me out though. Sorry :(
