Why ambiguously? He could easily be Brazilian, seriously. I see people with his skin tone and facial traits every day here, and I don't really get how people consider him as "not black" (in Brazil, this kind of trait could easily be mixed Native + Black or White + Black, but surely with a really strong black ancestry).

I assumed he was South American or mixed-heritage Caribbean. Where was he supposed to be from/what was his ethnicity supposed to be? Only saw the movie once (with an extremely racist family member, good times!) and don't remember the details.
