Re: Talking about characters you irrationally hate

When it comes to character hate (or love) I consider who I'm talking to and the context of the discussion. I'll talk pretty freely about my character opinions when posting at DW, while on Tumblr I just keep silent on stuff I don't like, unless I'm doing an askbox meme or something. And even then, I try not to come off as...inflammatory. With Tumblr I think most people are there to squee without putting too much thought into it (that's my approach, at least) with DW/LJ being a better place for more thorough discussions on character meta.

Also it depends on what the other person is asking for. If someone I don't know too well just wants to know what characters I like or don't like, I don't bother to go into much detail. If someone asks for reasons why I will give one or two reasons why. If that doesn't satisfy them, then it's just 'k, whatevs' and let the conversation end. :p I can't say I've been in many situations where I'm being pressed for my opinion on a character I dislike, though.

I don't have a good reason for hating this character in question

I dunno, when it comes to fiction I think any reason is a 'good' reason to hate a character? Even if it's something like "I JUST HATE THEIR FACE!!!11", things like character design/appearance and aesthetics are important. Disliking a character because that doesn't appeal to you for whatever reason isn't stupid.
