I don't like it when people say they don't like a character for no reason and without being asked or prompted. If it's a discussion with analysis and stuff it's totally different.

As for the reason...It just annoys me? I don't get why someone would say "I don't like this character" unprompted without elaborating— all it does is annoy people who like the character. It has absolutely zero value or usefulness to anyone. F!S is a bit different, because here we get prompted by secrets, but other places just get random unexplained comments that don't add anything in the middle of a discussion.

I guess it depends on context...are they saying that just to piss you off? Or because they just want to share their opinion? Are they going to a fanpage of that character and injecting their dislike? Or are they discussing it on a comm about the fandom, or their own journal, or a discussion in a friend's journal?

People have the right to share their opinions.

Of course they have the right, and I don't think they should be criticized or called out for it because it's not actually inappropriate, but in my personal opinion, those people who throw out "btw, I totally hate character X" for no reason while you're discussing something else are annoying enough for me to want to take extra care not to sound like them. I would never actually act so entitled and butthurt that I would actually tell them they shouldn't say those things, because I don't think there's anything wrong with doing that. I just personally do not want to sound like them.

And of course people shouldn't be criticized for sharing their opinions in a discussion of that character or on their journal. Duh.
